View full detailsThe Ingredients Store supplies 20+ natural waxes in the UK for cosmetics and candles: yellow and white beeswax (including BP/EP and organic), candelilla, carnauba, rice bran, sunflower, plant waxes and Lipowax D. Cosmetic waxes are sold from 500g to 25kg, with beeswax up to 1,000kg. Each wax lists its INCI name, with a specification and safety data sheet available.
We offer a diverse range of waxes tailored to meet your needs in cosmetics and candle making. Our waxes are available in two distinct formats: pastillated and refined, as well as hydrogenated. Hydrogenation is the process that converts liquid oil into a solid, waxy form by introducing hydrogen into the mix.
What sets our waxes apart is their impressive high melting point, which stands at a robust 65°C. This characteristic makes them particularly well-suited for lip care formulations, especially when compared to our range of butters. When you choose our waxes, you're selecting a versatile and dependable option that can be employed in various applications, from cosmetics to crafting exquisite candles.
Experience the exceptional quality and versatility of our waxes, designed to empower your formulations and creations with their unique properties. Explore the possibilities and unlock the potential of these waxes in your cosmetic and candle-making endeavors.

View full detailsWaxes give structure. In lip balms, sticks, salves, solid perfumes and pomades they set the hardness and melt point; in creams and lotions small amounts add body and stability; and in mascaras and hair waxes they add hold and gloss. Plant waxes such as candelilla, carnauba and rice bran are the usual vegan alternatives to beeswax. Waxes also reduce oil bleed in balms and help lipsticks and solid perfumes hold their shape in warm conditions.
| Wax | Character |
|---|---|
| Beeswax (Cera Alba) | Flexible, slightly tacky; the classic balm wax. Yellow is natural; white is refined to a paler, lower-odour wax |
| Candelilla (Euphorbia Cerifera Wax) | Harder than beeswax and glossy; use roughly half the amount when substituting |
| Carnauba (Copernicia Cerifera Wax) | The hardest natural wax, high melt point; adds firmness and shine |
| Rice bran and sunflower wax | Firm vegan structuring waxes for sticks and balms |
| Plant "waxes" (almond, avocado, olive, grapeseed, jojoba) | Softer, oil-derived waxes for creamy balms and body butters; check the INCI on each page |
| Lipowax D | An emulsifying wax (Cetearyl Alcohol and Ceteareth-20) from Vantage for creams and lotions |
When you swap one wax for another, adjust by weight and test the hardness of a small batch. As a guide, beeswax melts at roughly 62 to 64°C, candelilla at about 68 to 73°C and carnauba at about 82 to 86°C, so the plant waxes give a firmer stick that holds up better in warm weather. Exact figures for each wax are on its specification.
Pair waxes with natural butters and carrier oils for balms. Candle waxes, including Golden Wax and KeraSoy, are in candle and wax melt making.
Most cosmetic waxes are sold in 1kg, 5kg and 25kg packs. Yellow beeswax is listed up to 100kg and white BP/EP beeswax up to 1,000kg. For pallet quantities and regular contracts, see our cosmetic ingredients supply page or email support@theingredientsstore.com.
For most waxes we hold a specification, safety data sheet and supplier product statement, and for beeswax a food allergen declaration and manufacturing flow chart. White beeswax is supplied to the BP/EP standard. Beeswax, candelilla and carnauba are also documented as suitable for food use per supplier product statements, which matters for coatings and glazes. Certificates of analysis are available on request.
Brands producing balms and sticks at volume can see our cosmetic and personal care manufacturers page. Buying beeswax or soy wax for candles by the box or pallet? See wholesale candle wax.

Yellow beeswax is filtered natural wax with its honey colour and scent. White beeswax is refined to a pale, low-odour wax; our white grade meets the BP/EP standard.

Yes. Lipowax D from Vantage is an emulsifying wax (Cetearyl Alcohol and Ceteareth-20) used to make stable creams and lotions.
