How to Use

Melting
Melt to around 70–75°C, stirring as it melts. Short spells up to 90°C are fine if the wax is cooled quickly, but don't hold it hot for long or remelt above 85°C, as this can discolour it.

Colour
Powder dyes: heat to about 75°C and stir until fully dissolved. Liquid dyes, colour blocks and chips: about 70°C.

Fragrance
Use up to 10–12%, added and mixed just before pouring. Choose fragrances made for natural waxes, as paraffin-type fragrances can cause sweating, a poor surface or a weak flame.

Pouring
For the best glass adhesion, pour close to the set point, around 45–55°C. If you see problems, adjust in steps of 5–10°C. Jars should be clean and at least room temperature; warming them to 45–50°C helps adhesion.

Cooling and top-ups
Leave candles to cool undisturbed at around 25°C. Most containers need only one pour, but large jars may need a top-up with slightly warmer wax while the candle is still warm.

Wicking and testing
Natural waxes usually need a larger wick than paraffin. Trim wicks to ¼ inch, leave candles 48 hours before test burning, and check melt pool width and mushrooming. Test every combination of jar, wick, fragrance and dye.

Equipment
Stainless steel is best and mild steel is fine. Avoid copper and zinc, which speed up discolouration. Use a digital thermometer.
