What is candelilla wax?
Candelilla wax (INCI: Euphorbia Cerifera Wax) is a 100% pure, natural plant wax from the stems of the Mexican candelilla shrub. It is a vegan, palm-free alternative to beeswax that adds structure, gloss and hold to balms, lipsticks and sticks.
Can candelilla wax replace beeswax?
Yes, it is the usual vegan swap for beeswax, but it is harder and glossier, so most makers use less candelilla than the beeswax it replaces and adjust to the texture they want. It comes from Mexico and is not certified Kosher or Halal.
Is candelilla wax food safe?
Yes. It is suitable for use as the food additive E902 under EU food additive rules, within the permitted food categories. For cosmetics it is acceptable under EU Regulation 1223/2009, with the specification and SDS available on request.
