Product Description

Our Cold Pressed Castor Oil (BP) is a high-quality, multi-purpose oil sourced from India, where it is produced in various grades to meet diverse formulation needs. Used for centuries in cosmetic and industrial applications, this oil is renowned for its exceptional lubricating and hydrating properties.

Rich in ricinoleic acid (typically 85–92%), Castor Oil is a powerful moisturiser that enhances skin and hair formulations. It is a popular choice in bath bombs, and is frequently used in soaps and hair care products, adding shine, nourishment, and conditioning benefits.

Beyond its versatility, the production of Castor Oil in India supports local communities, contributing to sustainable development and ethical sourcing.

INCI Listing: Ricinus Communis Seed Oil

Frequently asked questions

What is Castor Oil BP?

It is a 100% pure, natural castor oil (INCI: Ricinus Communis Seed Oil) from Indian castor seeds, supplied to meet the British and European Pharmacopoeia monographs. Choose it when your customers or quality system ask for a pharmacopoeia-grade oil.

How does BP castor oil differ from No1 refined?

Both are refined castor oil of Indian origin. The BP grade is tested against the pharmacopoeia monographs, while No1 refined is the standard cosmetic grade. For most cosmetics either works; the specification for each is available on request.

Why is castor oil used in lip and hair products?

It is unusually thick and glossy, so it gives lip glosses and lipsticks shine and cushion, adds richness to hair, lash and brow oils, and boosts lather stability in soap. It is vegan, certified Kosher and not for food use.

What pack sizes are available?

From 250ml up to a 5kg pack, all priced online.

How it’s made

Pressed and refined

Pressed from the raw material, then gently refined for a clean, consistent oil.

  1. PressedThe oil is first released mechanically.
  2. RefinedIt is neutralised, bleached and deodorised.
  3. TestedEach batch is filtered and checked against specification.

What it means for you: Pale, light in scent and consistent from batch to batch, with a longer shelf life. Ideal when colour and scent need to stay neutral.
