Virginian Cedarwood Essential Oil, also known as Red Cedarwood, is steam distilled from the wood and timber by-products of Juniperus virginiana, an evergreen tree native to eastern North America.
Despite its common name, Virginian Cedarwood is not a true cedar. It belongs to the Cupressaceae family, whereas species such as Atlas Cedarwood belong to the Pinaceae family.
The oil has a distinctive dry, woody and warm aroma and is widely used as a fragrance ingredient across personal care, cosmetic, home fragrance and household applications. Its rich woody character makes it particularly well suited to masculine, earthy and grounding fragrance profiles.
